Description

Round WWI design metal helmet painted blue. Emblem on the front of the helmet. The front brim is bent in on the left side. Raised metal piece attached to the top center. Leather chin strap and inside of the helmet. A tag is attached to the leather inside.

Exterior: Raised metal piece is cracked and bent inward with a large dent on the top right of the helmet. Rivet on the right side of the middle metal piece is missing. Toward the front of the helmet the metal strip is cracked and raised from the helmet. The metal brim of the helmet is attached on the sided of the helmet.

Interior: Dark brown leather is attached inside the brim to the inside of the helmet. The leather sections are cut into rounded triangle strips with a drawstring hole at the end of triangle strips. Strip with drawstring still attached but torn. Drawstring has tag attached with a note written in French. Chin strap is attached on the sides of the helmet. The chin strap is light brown leather with small metal buckle.
Inscription: Exterior- Metal emblem with the initials, “RF”

Interior- Tag on the drawstring, Front of note, “9. Rue Des Freres Vaillant, Lille. MADAME HIEULLE. Casque ay aut affaite we a e'Ashiraut Hieulle Artheu (365 Req Infouteue) Loss de la lataillr de serdun en 1915 ou il fut blessi a la te -- Tracee du projectile"
Back of note, "sui la vasee du earopee eh loue de sereu. Authur Hielle- 1891-1940 ded=abbeulle: vietume eirle. 3 bleldeues e la eta: Serdeu, Rilly due Nos Nobeirlea.”


Translation:
"9. Rue Des Freres Vaillant, Lille. MADAME HIEULLE"- Is the address from the donor and wife of the man discribed below.

"Helmet from the Battle of Verdun in 1915 where he was wounded in the head. – Trace of projectile.(365 Reg. Infantry) On the helmet is the mud of Verdun 3 wounds to the head. Arthur Hieulle - 1891 – 1940"
